About Dan

Growing up on the picturesque northern tablelands of NSW on a family farm at Nowendoc, set the scene for Dan Higgins' passion for music, adventure and a desire to shape a better world by encouraging people to live happier, more fulfilled lives. Playing with his multi-talented brothers, music has always been a Higgins family tradition, spurring Dan to embark on his current songwriting and artistic journey.

Inspired and encouraged by being acknowledged with song of the week at the Pickin’ Pen song writer’s night in Tamworth, he teamed up with Lawrie Minson and Steve Newton to record his first studio release 'Home For Me' in 2014.  Dan went on to study at the JMC music academy in Melbourne and then in 2018 he returned to the studio to record his successful radio single 'The Hand'.  Staying in the Australian Country Tracks Top 40 charts for 10 weeks, the song gained him airplay across Australia and overseas in the UK, New Zealand, USA and other countries.  Releasing an accompanying music video produced by David Carter at Crestway Productions, also gained him CMC and CMR Nashville airplay, sparking enthusiastic interest in Dan Higgins the artist.

In late 2019 Dan approached multi award winning producer Matt Fell, and together they recorded Dan’s debut album set to be released in 2021, bringing together Dan’s influences in both country and folk music and showcasing his song writing passion.

The debut single ‘Isn’t It A Shame’ off the upcoming album was released in May 2020 spending 13 weeks in the Australian Country Tracks Top 40 charts peaking at number 5 and also gaining airplay on CMR Nashville and other various international radio stations.

Following the incredible success of ‘Isn’t It A Shame’, Dan released his radio hit ‘Ain’t Gonna Bottle It Up’ in October 2020. Rocketing up the charts to number 6, ‘Ain’t Gonna Bottle It Up’ continues to be played on radio stations around the country with 23 weeks of Top 40 airplay behind the song. The accompanying music video produced by The Filmery broadcast on CMT Australia and Vevo globally.

Dan recently teamed up with Northern Rivers based Line Dancing extraordinaire Tayla Kennedy and Kimbery Vidler from Lennox Beach Line Dancing group to shoot a performance video for the dance choreographed to Dan's single 'Ain't Gonna Bottle It Up'. The video features dancers from the club as well as Dan's band and it is directed and produced by Susie Forster at Byron Bay Multimedia.

Dan is the recipient of many finalist nominations for his songwriting including the ASA (Australian Songwriters Association) Awards Top 30 in the 2018, 2019, 2020 and APRA AMCOS/TSA Finalist for New Songwriter Award in 2018.

Dan’s music is positive and uplifting and showing similarities in style to the likes of Paul Kelly and Steve Earle.

When not playing music, Dan’s outdoor spirit sees him pursuing adventures on water, land and snow, before returning to a simple life on the farm where his passion for restoring old machinery shines through.  Growing up he was the youngest member of the Harry Ferguson Tractor Club giving him a taste of fame on the front page of their national newsletter. Dan is an inventor at heart, always exploring challenging new skills.

He also works as a trained surveyor and will happily sit down with you and elaborate on some of the cool projects he has worked on.

With the upcoming worldwide release of his debut album and national tour plans late in 2021, there is a lot more in store for the music of Dan Higgins.
